Such Is Life

I have come to the conclusion that life is strange.  I have also come to the conclusion that it’s not always fun…or fair.  Such is life!

It’s amazing that I haven’t caught the Covid virus yet.  As things stand now, it will be even more amazing if I never catch it since it feels like the entire world has moved into my house with me, and all these new people have no regard for how carefully my wife and I have been trying to protect ourselves.  They keep inviting all their friends over to visit without asking us.

I have spent my entire life trying to get to this point.  I’m in my upper sixties and am now just over a week away from retiring.  My wife and I were hoping to travel a little, but right now, that’s out of the question.  Instead, because of circumstances, we are now sharing our house with our son’s entire family and entourage of pets.  There is literally someone up and around 24 hours a day.  Privacy to sit and write is basically a no-go.  One of my goals for retirement was to have a few hours every single day when I could sit down quietly and write.  Right now, that’s pretty much out of the question.  If someone isn’t wanting something from us, then the dogs start barking, which sets them all barking.  Our nice quiet house is not nice and quiet anymore.

I still intend on finishing this story, and I want to finish the last story I started here too.  I just can’t tell you when I’ll be able to get back to it.  Please pray that I can find the fortitude to manage to keep writing despite everything else.  And I won’t mention another little book I stared a six months ago called What Child is This that I haven’t been able to get back to either.

Please, please, please – stay safe and healthy.

Karen,
I have felt your pain.
I had my daughter with twin 5 year old boys and a newborn granddaughter with my daughters half brother stay with my wife and I for just shy of 2 years. Chaos and mayhem is the only way I could describe those 2 years. I have been sheltering my wife who has RA with a compromised immune system from this chinese virus. I am considered an "Essential worker" and had to work through the entire pandemic. They moved out in june this year and this are almost back to as normal as possible. My wife and I had "come to jesus" meetings almost monthly to lay down the law, and if they didn't like it they knew where the doors were to leave. You will get through this and all your loyal fans will be here waiting till you can release your creative juices again. Remember... Your House, Your Rules
